Soft as a cloud, our newest yarn in the shop is a lofty merino DK yarn from Japan. Genmou comes in a palette of yummy colors. The palette is a plethora of wardrobe-friendly neutrals, jewel tones, plus a few pops of intense color for fun accessories and colorwork. The construction of this airy yarn is a barely spun, almost pencil-roving-like merino, plied with a very skinny strand of merino thread. The combo gives strength and texture while keeping Genmou's dreamy plushness.
I love every single color of Genmou, but was unable to resist this vibrant sky blue. I decided to test out Genmou by making Veera Välimäki's Kagome Beanie. This quick little cabled knit was the perfect project to give me a feel for this yarn and adds a bright pop of color to my wardrobe. The yarn was a breeze to work with, and the finished fabric is so squishy and lovely. If I could just have a mattress made from that garter stitch border I would be in dreamland.
I'm sure this hat will be a winter favorite, and will bring a little brightness of summer sky into colder months.
