We have been absolutely enchanted by the gorgeous buttons of Tabitha Sewer since the moment we started carrying them. It was wonderful to finally get a chance to catch up with Tabitha and learn a bit more about her business and creative process!
1. How did you get started in the sewing and button industry? What is your background?
My mother, Evangeline, is an incredible seamstress who sewed my whole life. I learned to sew after serving in the US Air Force at my mother’s recommendation 8 years ago.

2. Where do you draw your design inspiration from?
A lot of my inspiration comes from my mom and other powerful, influential Black Women, especially in music and activism. I also find inspiration through my favorite fashion bloggers on Instagram.

3. What does a typical workday look like for you?
It always changes! Once a week I play around in my closet, getting dressed up and taking photos. Other days I get to play with fabric and sew, or craft and film tutorials. Sometimes, I just grab my favorite crafting supplies and make whatever is inspiring me at the moment. Most days, I have to sit at the computer and write or email or jump on Zoom for a meeting or two. A lot of the time, it’s hoping my phone doesn’t die on me in the middle of meetings. The days always change, but it’s always a good time!

4. How would you describe your design aesthetic?
Fun! I love bright, bold colors and fun prints. I'm very playful with my style. I never take myself too seriously. I just like to have fun with it.

5. What are you most excited about in garment making right now?
I love seeing all of the different versions people make from the same pattern. It’s so fun and interesting to see how one pattern could look so different with just a couple of changes in fabric, details, or pattern hacking!

6. What are you most proud of in your work?
I would say I’m most proud of seeing all of my hard work paying off. It’s been a long, tiring road, but I never would’ve thought a couple of years ago that I would be a full-time content creator with a pattern line, a button line, a warehouse, and a team to help me.

7. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Rice! LOL! I'm half Filipino. I ate rice every day as a child, so I love it. Plain white rice.
