Quinn's Wintertime Raglan

It’s such a treat for me to be able to make cute, quality clothes for my darling girl, Quinn. When I look for children’s garment patterns, I look for patterns that are simple and flattering and can be customized with little accents and details that I know she will love. And right now, she adores pockets and easy fitting dresses. The Raglan Dress was so perfect for that.

I tend to make Quinn more dresses in the summer and I actually made her a summertime version of this dress (check it out here), but the Raglan Dress also has a long sleeve option which was perfect for the colder months. 

I’m the kind of mom that loves to dress my kid in frocks that I could totally see myself wearing and I’m honestly so envious of this little denim number I made for her. As much as I love my little mini-me, I never really considered wearing matching outfits with her, but I am seriously thinking of making an exception for this dress. It truly goes with anything, leggings, boots, flats, you name it, it works for any look. Plus, Avid Seamstress has an adult version of their pattern that is just as swoon worthy as this one. 

The Raglan Dress goes together in a breeze. The construction is so simple, with not very many pattern pieces to cut out and simple, clean finishes. I am a huge fan. I love that it’s a real blank canvas. You can use a simple no fuss fabric or a bold print and it is going to look great either way. Plus, the pockets are a great detail on the dress and the perfect way to show off a more simple print. I cut my pockets on the bias so they pop just a bit more. And like I said, Quinn loves pockets to store all of her toddler treasures and these are big enough for toys, snacks or lollipops. 

I loved working with this window pane denim chambray because it was easy to lay out and I wasn’t super concerned with matching because the fabric allowed for some flexibility.  I also kind of dread doing a traditional hem, so I tend to use bias tape to finish her garments because it is easy, quick and also adds a bit of detail that she loves to show off.  Right now we have this beautiful and super soft lawn bias tape by Fru Fru that I’m in love with, so I knew I would be using it to embellish and finish this dress. She loves to notice these details and tell me to look at the pretty flowers on her dress and that just warms my mama heart.
