Jamie's Perfect Pressed Flowers Hats

I love almost anything Amy Christoffers (@Savory Knitting) designs and this Pressed Flowers motif is no exception! She has produced patterns using this motif for a shawl, cardigan and now a hat. The hat seemed like the perfect size project for me to take one and complete and I didn't knit just one—it was such a fun knit, I whipped up two! 

Believe it or not, this was my first time knitting with Spin Cycle's Dyed in the Wool. This yarn is so special because it is spun from hand-dyed roving, as opposed to almost all other yarn with are dyed after being spun. The extra effort this requires is reflected in the price of the yarn and I was thrilled to be able to squeeze two hats out of one skein! I had about 12 grams leftover after making these hats.

I paired the DITW with Retrosaria's Vovó yarn. This is a gorgeous, affordable, workhorse yarn that was a pleasure to work with. I paired the DITW with two different colors, highlighting how different a look you can get depending on the main color you might choose. Verdict—I love them both!

The pattern is a dream to knit. The perfect amount of ease that lends itself well to binging "Wednesday" while providing just enough interest to not be boring. The hat is worked using mosaic knitting which is much simpler than it looks. Mosaic knitting uses two colors, but across each row, only one color is worked at a time, slipping the non-worked stitches. This makes for a beautiful look, similar to color work, but much easier to execute. This would be a great intermediate step in between single-color knitting, but before trying stranded color work. The hat gets its texture by working the mosaic stitches in garter stitch, while leaving the flower motifs in stockinette stitch. Overall, I'm a huge fan of this pattern!
