Retreat meets 06/28/18 - 07/01/18
Join us for a fun weekend retreat taught by Cal Patch. You will learn how to draft a pattern (using your own measurements) for your own custom shift dress with sleeves, make a muslin to test the fit, alter the pattern, and then sew a real dress! Skills covered will include taking measurements, drafting a sloper, invisible zippers, hemming, bias tape facings and more. This classic and versatile style can also become a blouse or tunic, with infinite sleeve variations. Students must have some sewing experience and be comfortable using a sewing machine. This workshop includes instruction, one dinner, two lunches, and breakfast over the course of a long weekend; Thursday evening 6/28/18 through Sunday afternoon 7/1/18. View an itinerary here.
Cal Patch has been a maker since she was a Girl Scout in the seventies. She sews, crochets, spins, embroiders, knits, prints, makes patterns, dyes… hence the name of her clothing label: *hodge podge*. Cal has been teaching the textile arts since 2000, at shops and retreats across North America, and now offers online workshops in Pattern Drafting, Sewing and Crochet via Creativebug. After seventeen years of being a New York City dweller, Cal now resides in the Catskills where she is becoming a crafty farmer and growing her handmade wardrobe. Her first book, Design-It-Yourself Clothes, Patternmaking Simplified, was published by Potter Craft. You can see what she’s up to at her blog, http://hodgepodgefarm.net/.
Upon signing up we will email you a detailed itinerary of the weekend, a list and map of our favorite spots around Denver, and a materials list.
