Melton wool originated in the British Isles, as one of the warmest and most weather resistant woolen fabrics. Melton wool, for centuries, has been used for hunting attire, uniforms, outerwear, and blankets.
The tightly woven wool is heavily "fulled", giving the surface a smooth fuzzy texture, hiding and tightening the weave, and creating a fabric that frays minimally or not at all. In addition, this treatment of the fabric creates a wind and water resistant textile. It holds up to wear and is a wonderful choice for all kinds of warm garments, bags, and home goods.
