Learn about the history & techniques of the traditional craft of Dorset Buttons. Starting with the Crosswheel design and using the four techniques of casting, slicking, laying and rounding, you’ll make a Dorset Button & then learn additional stitches to be able to design your own. With the basic techniques mastered there are endless designs and possibilities of how to use them! They are a great way to use up all those odd ends of yarn to make something quite beautiful to give a personal finishing touch to a knitted, crocheted or fabric project, to update and revitalize an old garment, or adorn a shawl, bag, hat, or cushion.
This class is taught by Tania Ashton Jones from the Isle of Skye. Brought up in Dorset, on the South Coast of England, & now living on the Isle of Skye off the North West Coast of Scotland, Tania is addicted to making Dorset Buttons & loves to spread the word about this traditional 17th Century craft through her creative business TJFrog. Tania enjoys sourcing yarns to showcase colours & textures in different Dorset Button designs.
Class includes materials, but feel free to bring your own yarn scraps to incorporate.
