Beginner Plus:   You have taken a 101 class or equivalent. You are familiar with threading your machine or know basic knit or crochet stitches.

Intermediate: You’ve got a few projects under your belt. You’ve made a few things and are looking to increase your knowledge.

Advanced: You know quite a bit about your chosen craft and you’re ready to take it to the next level.

Have you wanted to learn how to knit brioche, but unsure where to start? The Harlow Hat by Andrea Mowry is the perfect pattern to learn brioche with.  By using two colors, we will be able to easily distinguish stitches and make a reversible wearable hat and learn a new stitch!

Techniques to be comfortable with before coming to class
  • Knitting and Purling in the round
  • Decrease Stitches
Techniques discussed in this class
  • Two color brioche knitting in the round
  • Two color tubular cast on or german twisted cast on
  • Brioche decrease stitches.

Required Materials
You may use either the Harlow or Harlow Worsted pattern by Andrea Mowry. 
Please purchase and have this pattern available before coming to class. You may also purchase the pattern at Fancy Tiger Crafts, but please come early to ensure we can complete your purchase and print the pattern before class starts.

Supplies for Harlow
  • Yarn: Fingering Weight in 2 colors - Approximately 30 g each
  • Suggested Needles:
    Size US 2/2.75 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
    Size US 3/3.25 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
    Size US 3/3.25 mm - DPNs (or a longer circular for magic loop)
    (Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge, go down one size for brim.)
  • Stitch Marker
  • Tapestry Needle
Supplies for Harlow Worsted
  • Yarn: Worsted Weight in 2 colors - Approximately 30-50 g each
  • Size US 5/3.75 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
    Size US 6/4 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
    Size US 6/4 mm - DPNs (or a longer circular for Magic Loop)
    (Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge, go down one size for brim.)
  • Stitch Marker
  • Tapestry Needle
