For children who would like to make a quilt for the first time (Kids’ Sewing 201 equivalent), you are invited to bring a picture (printed or digital) that makes you excited about making a quilt top. We will look at the elements of color, contrast, and scale that you like about your inspiration and help clarify those elements that speak to you so you can make something that you love.
The emphasis will be on the fabric choices, and all the children will make patchwork-square quilts. They can choose the size of their squares, but bigger will mean a quicker finish. Some strip-piecing and chain-piecing techniques will be covered, and they will also use a design wall to clarify their layouts. This class is about creating a quilt top, not completing a finished quilt.
Ages 10-14. Students must have taken Sewing 101 or have equivalent skills. Please be aware that students will be using sharp rotary cutters to cut the fabric pieces.
