Yolanda's Camber Set

I have been in a sewing slump for a long minute. It’s a familiar story, I was stuck on a pattern using a challenging fabric and wouldn’t give myself permission to move on. Along came Fancy Tiger Crafts Co- Op to save the day by reaching out to see if I wanted to re-engage as a Brand Ambassador! This was just the nudge I needed to dust off the sewing machine and put that old project away!  I looked for a pattern with a bit of a challenge but also wanted to make it a win. I’ve been looking at The Camber Set for a while and decided to take the plunge. This pattern is great for a beginner/intermediate sewist! 

I wanted a garment I could wear year-round so I chose this lovely linen fabric that will be great for a cool summer day/evening and can transition to winter by adding an accessory or two. I read through the pattern and paid special attention to the finished bicep measurement as sleeves are typically my biggest sizing challenge. I quickly determined that I would need to make a bicep adjustment, and this was something I’ve never attempted before. Luckily, there are some great tutorials online to walk you through the process.

It took me a couple of tries to get it right (thank you Swedish tracing paper!) but I finally got my sleeve to be the size I need and now I was ready to begin cutting fabric. I’ve never made a yoke before, but it turned out to be a very satisfying exercise. After stressing a bit about how it would come together, I committed to trusting the process and the well written pattern and it turned out wonderful!  The fabric is absolutely lovely to work with! It has a great feel and sews up nicely. It’s becoming very clear that I lean towards cottons and linens. Know thyself! As you can see in the pictures, this dress is great on its own but it is also easy to style with a hat and a jacket! Start to finish, once I figured out the bicep adjustment, this dress took me a week of lunch hours to sew up. I plan to purchase more of this fabric in different colors and anticipate a couple summer tops in my future.
