Kaylee's Laylow Shawl

Shannon Cook’s Laylow shawl is the perfect social knitting! I knit this while watching movies, drinking wine with friends and all over the city. It is almost entirely knit in garter stitch with a few yarn overs so you really can pick it up, knit a row here and there, and put it away without having to worry about messing up the pattern. Plus you end up with a stunning and simple accessory to wrap yourself up in! It really is the most wonderfully rewarding mindless knitting.

Yarn: 1 skein each, Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Modern Fair Isle and Nectar
Modifications: Knit on size 2 needles because of my loose guage

I knit this up in the ever beautiful Madelinetosh Merino Light. I love the wonderful color selection, the incredible drape and buttery soft texture of these yarns. I originally picked the colorway Modern Fair Isle as the main part of this shawl because of its subtle and interesting hand dyed color variation and added the dynamic Nectar on the bottom when I was trying to find a mate for it. Let me just say, these colors were made to be together!

This shawl is a jumbo 20” from the center point out to the bottom edge. It’s so cozy to wrap around your neck and wear as a handkerchief scarf, and although it isn’t really my style, it is equally stunning to drape over your shoulders and use as a more traditional shawl.

Even though this big accessory is knit in fingering weight yarn, I was still able to whip it up in just 10 short days because of the simple, effortless stitch pattern. I’m so glad I got it done quickly since the cold weather has caught back up with us here in Colorado.
