Rosie Head Wrap Tutorial
These little fabric headbands are a quick and easy project for your favorite jersey fabrics! I picked up a few of Carolyn Friedlander's newest knit collection, Blake, to sew up a few of these cuties for my nieces and couldn't help but make an adult size, too. Please be careful, folks, and only let your babes wear these under supervision.
Supplies:
1/4 yd Jersey (choose something with spandex for good stretch and recovery)Jersey/Ballpoint Needles
Thread
Rotary Cutter
Quilting Ruler
Cutting Mat
Bow Template (Download for free)
Before you begin, cut one rectangle 6" wide by the length listed below. You'll want it to be stretchiest lengthwise.
Newborn: 12.5"
0-3 month: 13.5"
3-6 month: 14.5"
6-12 month: 15.5"
Toddler: 16.5"
Child: 17.5"
Teen/Adult Small: 18.5"
Adult Large: 19.5"
Cut 2 from the bow template.
1. Fold your rectangle in half lengthwise, right sides together and pin along the long side of the band.
2. Sew along the long open side with a 1/2" Seam Allowance, using a zig-zag stitch or your preferred stretch stitch.
3. Turn right side out and press flat, centering the seam in the middle.
4. Nestle one end of the band into the other, creating a continuous loop. Overlap about 1/4-1/2" and pin in place. Sew through all layers with a zig zag stitch to secure. Set band aside.
5. Place the two bow pieces right sides together and pin along the edge. Sew around the edge with a 3/8" seam allowance, using a zig-zag stitch or your preferred stretch stitch. Leave about 1.5" open in the middle of one side to allow for turning.
6. Trim seam allowance to 1/4" and turn bow right side out. Press flat.
7. Position the bow behind the seam in the band, centering the bow along the band. Position a zig zag stitch at the widest and shortest setting, and tack the bow down with just a few stitches, centered on the band seam.
8. Carefully tie the bow around the band, taking your time to position the bow placement. Too cute!
