Vivarium Colorwork & Steek Swatch Pattern

If you are considering joining our spring Vivarium knitalong, we have the perfect warm-up project for you--the Vivarium Swatch pattern. We all know swatches are important, especially for a sweater project. With armhole steeks in the mix, swatching and getting accurate gauge becomes essential. Once you get gauge, you can steek with confidence that your sweater will fit.

Three colorwork knitting swatches, red, navy and green, stacked on a grey background.

In addition to making sure you've achieved proper gauge, swatching your colorwork allows you to really see your chosen palette of colors worked up. Since the swatch includes a steek panel, you'll even be able to practice your steeking right on the swatch.

Hands holding a knitted colorwork swatch in ecru, tomato, and brown. The swatch has been steeked (cut open) on the top half.

The Vivarium Pullover is a great project for learning new techniques. If you haven't tried your hand at colorwork, or at steeking or even if you haven't yet made a sweater--join along in the knitalong and let's make it together! To knit the Vivarium Swatch, you will need to purchase the Vivarium pattern, available in the Spring 2019 issue of Pom Pom Magazine
