Katy's Peach Sherbet Komorebi Hat

I'm not normally a fluffy yarn kind of gal, but when we got the St Magnus DK made from Orkney Isle Angora rabbits in two fantastic tones of peach, I knew I needed to make a hat with it! As a pattern designer, I love making samples of my own patterns in a broad variety of yarn and knew the St Magnus would be great in my Komorebi hat pattern.

St Magnus is the perfect blend of fluffy, but not too fluffy. It has a nice tight ply which helps keep the fluff from shedding too much, and it is also uber soft and lightweight! Produced in the UK, the angora fiber is responsibly-sourced, and the dyeing and winding factory uses earth-friendly wind power.

I designed the Komorebi hat to be the perfect combo of slouch with texture. To get the slouch just right, you knit the bottom on a smaller needle size than the top, so you have a tighter band of fabric that blooms out into the slouch at the back. The knit-in-the-stitch-below texture is super easy, and it creates a waffle stitch effect that traps heat and keeps you cozy.

Let's talk about one of my favorite things—color! You can play with color a ton with this pattern. Alternating colors each row in the texture stitch on Komorebi gives you a wonderful two-tone effect. You can knit the whole hat in a solid color, or you can alternate colors thusly, or you can do what I've done and work a stripe of solid, a stripe of alternating, and a stripe of solid in the second color for a fun gradient effect. There are so many great colors in the St Magnus palette to pair up together, go crazy!

A fluffy hat needed the perfect pom-pom, and our new alpaca pom poms from Toft seemed the perfect match. I chose the biggest, fluffiest one we had! The poms are sourced from Peruvian farmers with naturally-deceased alpacas, so they help support economically-challenged farmers after the loss of an animal.

I'm going to wear this hat all winter, it's super warm and feels like I'm wearing a cloud on my head. It's perfect for enjoying some hot tea in!

I'll be running a knit-along for Komorebi next month on my Instagram starting Nov 15th, pick up some St Magnus or another DK yarn from Fancy Tiger and join the fun
