Jaime's Dark Deschain

There is nothing more exciting to me than that seasonal switch from wool sweaters to linen and cotton tees and tanks. Summertime knitting is here!

Quince & Co. Kestrel in Ash

My first summertime knit for 2017: Deschain by Leila Raabe for Quince. The Linen Noir collection that Quince released for their summer yarns all knit in black is stunning. I was so inspired by it! I couldn't veer off track and chose to knit my Deschain pullover in Ash -the same off-black color of Kestrel as the original pattern. It's soo good.

This sweater is my perfect cut - a super boxy shapeless pullover. I love the lace panel on the front which both looks amazing and made the knitting interesting. Kestrel is an aran weight yarn so it knits up super fast on size 11 needles. The front and back are separate rectangles that are seamed and then stitches are picked up and worked for the sleeves.

This is my third project in Kestrel and I really love this yarn. The tape construction makes it strong and it doesn't fray like linen yarn can. The large gauge of the yarn gives it a hefty weight that makes for superb drape - perfect for an over-sized garment like this.

This is going to be in heavy rotation this summer. It looks great with jeans but also layered over top of a dress. Summertime knitting has arrived!
