Pattern: Astrological Tea Towel by Amber Corcoran from Constellations: 12 Pieced Astrological Blocks, 8 Personalized Sewing Projects
Materials: 2 yards Metallic Linen in Silver + 1/8 yard cosmic scraps for stars
The Astrological Tea Towel is a great Constellations starter project after you first get the book. It’s a blank canvas, great for trying out tons of fun techniques featured throughout the collection. Fussy cut something cosmic into the star shapes. Add pom poms or tassels to the bottom or edges. Hand embroider the constellation lines using one of the two stitches demonstrated in the book. The possibilities are limitless and since it uses just one Constellation block the project comes together super quickly. Dip your toe into Constellations pool with this bite-sized project.
One of the things we absolutely love about this sample? It shows just how fantastic and striking any of the Constellations patterns can look with a light background. Naturally, when you think of constellations, you think of the dark night sky, but this bright and bold tea towel looks fantastic and totally unique in a glimmery cream colored fabric.
Using a stable linen fabric, like the Silver Metallic Linen Amber picked, makes this tea towel just as functional as it is beautiful. Plus the added quilting lines not only hold they front and back pieces together, they ensure that you can wash and use your towel over and over again.
Great as a gift or for yourself, you can customize the towel to the astrological sign of the recipient. Shown here in Sagittarius, the towel looks great in any one of the 12 constellation patterns available in the book.
