Caitlin's Cashmerette Montrose

I've been meaning to try Cashmerette's patterns for a while now, and I'm so glad I finally did!  I recently stitched up the new Montrose Top pattern.  With only 5 pattern pieces for view A, it was a quick and satisfying project.

Pattern: Cashmerette's Montrose Top, version A
Materials: 2 1/2 yards Celestial Cotton Rayon Lawn in Opal
Size Made: 20 with E/F Cup
Modifications: shortened the sleeves by 1", brought up the scoop neck by approximately 1/2"

The Montrose Top is designed for wovens, so it was the perfect opportunity to try out Cotton + Steel's Cotton Rayon Lawn.  This substrate is soft and fluid, but the cotton keeps it stable enough so it doesn't shift while cutting and sewing.  Win, win!

What I love about Cashmerette's patterns is they have three options for bust sizes: C/D, E/F, G/H. For someone whose bust measurements rarely match the numbers on a pattern envelope, this feels like a breath of fresh air! Based on my measurements, I ended up choosing a size 20 with the E/F bust.

The construction of version A is a breeze! The instructions are clear and concise, and there's nothing terribly difficult.  It's a quick sew for seasoned sewists, but would also be a great pattern for someone just starting out. I especially love gathering, so the little gather in the back is fun to sew and is a cute design feature, too!

Since this is my first time sewing a Cashmerette pattern, I really wanted to try the pattern as-is, straight from the envelope.  I brought up the neckline just a smidge, but I don't think it was necessary.  I also shortened the sleeve length by 1" after trying it on.  That said, I'm pretty happy with the fit, but next time I will make a few changes.
