Amber's Cozy Cotton Ursa Sweater
Jacqueline Cieslak's Ursa pullover has been on my to-knit list since it came out early this year. I thought it would be the perfect sweater to fill a missing piece in my wardrobe - a soft cotton sweater to wear over dresses as cool fall weather settles in. Wool and the Gang's Shiny Happy Cotton was the perfect pairing to make this cozy pullover!
Pattern: Ursa by Jacqueline Cieslak
Yarn: Wool and the Gang Shiny Happy Cotton, 4 skeins (just barely used the 4th skein!)
Size Made: 42 with optional C/D bust darts
Modifications: Gauge of 12.5 sts per 4" (vs pattern gauge of 11.5 sts per 4")
Ursa was a joy to knit, and I was thrilled that it includes optional bust darts to easily customize the fit to your shape. I chose to add the C/D bust darts when knitting my Ursa.
My gauge was actually a little small (12.5 sts per 4" vs the pattern gauge of 11.5 sts per 4") but I liked the fabric worked up at that gauge. Rather than going up a needle size, I calculated that knitting a "size 42" would give me a finished size of 39" at my gauge, which sounded perfect for my 36" bust.
Knitting with Shiny Happy Cotton was lovely. It makes a wonderfully soft and drapey fabric. I do love wool. Almost all my sweaters are made with the wooliest of yarns, but when I wear them, I need a barrier between my upper arms and neck. Slipping on this soft cotton sweater feels like wearing dreamy pajamas. I can wear it over tank tops and strappy dresses, or even just a bra. It feels like a soft cotton hug!
My new Ursa is the perfect lightweight sweater for a little bit of warmth with an adorable cropped style!
