Aleks' Merchant & Mills 101 Trouser

Pattern: Merchant & Mills 101 Trouser
Fabric: Robert Kaufman Essex Yarn Dyed, 55% Linen/45% Cotton, 43” wide color Mocha
Notions: thread
When I was in high school, I made a lot of my clothing. I included many of the pieces I made in my application portfolio to architecture school, which earned me a place in the program. BUT, I haven’t made clothing for myself for over 35 years – yikes – 35 years!

The Merchant & Mills 101 Trouser pattern excited me because the pants looked so comfortable, and quite frankly, easy to make.

I love the linen/cotton mix of Robert Kaufman’s Essex Yarn Dyed fabric. It is more robust than quilting cotton and drapes beautifully. It was extremely easy to work with. My biggest challenge was which color to use.

If I made these pants again, I would shorten the top part of the pants around the hip some and add a bit of length so they fit my body a better. I also thought this pattern would make a great pair of summer shorts.

Hi Alek, beautiful job with the pants. They look great.
I was wondering how many yards you needed for this particular fabric/pattern.
I am thinking of using the same fabric.
Thank you.
