Fancy In The Time Of Quarantine

FANCY IN THE TIME OF QUARANTINE

By now, you’ve seen the videos Fancy Tiger Crafts has posted to show you how your online and curbside orders are being processed. If you’re local, you have seen firsthand just how different the store looks these days as we’ve adapted to operate during the pandemic. You’ve probably seen a couple of familiar faces, smiling at you over their masks as they prepare your order. However, did you know that we have just as many (if not more) people working behind the scenes and from home? Today, I wanted to give you a glimpse into what it’s like to shift into remote work while staying Fancy!

I’ve been working from home for over 2 months now, which is something I hadn’t anticipated being possible a few months ago. If you’re a local shopper or have visited Fancy recently, you’ve probably interacted with me. Helping customers was one of the best parts of my job, and I’ve been able to utilize my skills to help continue doing just that.

On a given day, I might be interacting with you on social media, copyediting or copywriting posts about our newest products, participating in Zoom KAL sessions, recording tutorials, and--most recently--adding closed captions to our many videos to make them more accessible.

This has been, understandably, a very large shift in what had previously been my focus working for Fancy Tiger Crafts. The biggest challenge for me was finding balance and structure. I had never really worked from home before, and initially I found it difficult to manage my time and learn to be “home” when work was over. I love my job, and it wasn’t hard for me to devote most of my time, thoughts, and energy to it, even when I wasn’t clocked in. It’s taken a bit to find my balance, but this has been such a rewarding experience and challenge!

I am so incredibly lucky to have such a supportive and amazing team to work for and with as I have found that balance and figured out my new role. As a person with pre-existing health conditions that made going out in public rather risky, I am so fortunate that I work for a company that bent over backwards to find a way to accommodate me to keep me safe, and simultaneously recognized and utilized my talents so that I could continue to be effective.

Most of all, thank you so much to our loyal and supportive customers that make this all possible. I miss your faces and voices, and I can’t wait to help you in person again!

    Jennifer,

Hello! Rae’s significant other made a custom piece in his woodshop to fit onto one of her microphone holders. If you search “phone holders to go over your desk to record” in google that brought up a lot of options. Hope that can help you find one that will work for your needs!
