The Lladybird Jeans Retreat Was A Denim Dream

One thing is for sure, the pandemic may have delayed the fun but one year later our Fancy Tiger Crafts hosted Jeans Retreat with Lladybird (Lauren Taylor) was so successful we have already planned two more for 2022!

Hold onto your buttons, you will have to stay tuned and register for those retreats when we release the dates, which will be in February! We will be having retreats June 3-5 and September 23-25 of 2022. Each class is planned for a class size of 12. So, mark those calendars and read below to get all the details on our most popular class/retreat we offer.

Participants from out state, mother/daughter pairs, locals and in-state adventurers alike joined us for a three day retreat in the Fancy Tiger Crafts store and classrooms to learn start to finish how to make their own jeans, fitted specifically to their bodies. Who doesn't want a pair of hand tailored jeans fit specifically to their unique and beautiful body?

When participants arrived on Friday, the first thing Lladybird did was individually meet with each sewist and help them find their jeans fit. First they select a style and size  and then they learn how to alter and tailor the jeans to fit their body. For the retreat, students worked with stretch spandex denim and the Closet Core Ginger Jeans and Ames Cashmerette Jeans patterns. Both patterns were styled as a skinny jean but students were able to use a straight jean fit if they chose to make the edit to the pattern.

After all of the fitting, cutting and marking commenced, Lladybird led students through a fast paced Saturday and Sunday workshop that included tutorials and demos on specific techniques required. Because of the pace and technical direction, this retreat is recommended for sewists that are at an intermediate skill level and have made several garments leading up to the class.

"You learn how to do all of the things so that when you go to do them again with your own machines and things at home, you have all of the skills," said classroom coordinator Christine Patzman. "Everyone finished and everyone was really happy. It was a lot of fun!"

As one can imagine, beyond getting a perfect fit, the workshop focused on some of the particulars that can sometimes make jeans a challenge - things like rivets, zippers and topstitching. All the tips, tricks and hacks were shared with our retreat attendees. Additionally, participants were able to ask for help or get questions answered as they progressed through their projects.
