Basecamp-along: A Fall Sock Knit-along! With prizes!

It’s time for our 2018 Knit-Along! This year we skipped our winter-time sweater knit-along (stay tuned early next year for more exciting knit-along related news), but we didn’t want to skip the KAL fun all together!  We are so excited about our new Basecamp Socks pattern and it seems like the perfect opportunity for a Fall knit-along.

Basecamp Socks by Fancy Tiger Crafts

Our new free Basecamp pattern is a great beginner sock pattern with simple instructions, explanations, and a gauge that is flexible to help fit any foot. These socks also combine two of our favorite things, knitting and the outdoors! Basically, a slam dunk for us!

Hue Loco Tweed Basecamp Socks

Basecamp is a rustic sock pattern that lends itself well to more rustic yarns. It was originally designed for Hue Loco’s locally dyed Tweed Sock yarn which we love, but it is no secret that we are passionate about natural fibers and breed specific wools. We are delighted to have a couple of yarns suitable for making socks that are hearty, non-superwash, breed specific and do not contain nylon.

Retrosaria Mondim yarn in Yellow 107

Retrosaria’s Mondim is one such yarn. Made from 100% Fine Portuguese Wool, the fibers have a long staple, and the yarn is a tight 3-ply twist that gives it the stability needed for socks without the addition of nylon. It is even named for a Portuguese village once famous for its sock knitting cottage industry! Jaime will be making her socks from the tragically sold-out Yellow 107 colorway of this yarn. There are tons of amazing colors to pick from though, so check out our full inventory here.

Tukuwool Fingering in Repo21 and Sulo34

Amber will be knitting her socks from of two colors of Tukuwool Fingering. Tukuwool is made from a Finnish wool that is as light, airy and like Jamie’s Mondim, hearty without the need for nylon or other synthetic fibers. She has already done some test toes (shown here in a simple striping pattern) and has decided to try a helix striping method (more on this later) in Repo H21 and Sulo 34.
